About this event

Most of us can identify blatant racism when we see it, such as slurs, defacing property, hate groups, and racially motivated assaults. In this 200-level program, we’ll talk about how white folks - unwittingly, sometimes, or even quite intentionally - harm Black people and other people of color. Examples include: dismissing the lived experiences of People of Color, “playing devil’s advocate”, and most dangerously, “white caller crimes.” Daily acts that may seem excusable, even harmless, often escalate dangerously, and they are happening all over this country, from Starbucks to Central Park, backyards to college campuses. Some white women have complained that it hurts to be questioned, to be called "a Karen": What does that mean? How we can avoid "being a Karen" and change these painful, even life-threatening behaviors?

Registration is open to all those who have participated at least once in our Opening Conversation About Race. Please be encouraged to register for that program HERE.

The cost for this program is $25.* Please donate more if you would like to support participation by all Alums, regardless of their ability to pay.

*Please do not permit an inability to pay keep you from participating. Write confidentially to our Executive Coordinator, Nikki Fortes, '98, for a waiver: executivelead@wrji.org.
